Monday's Musings: Benjamin Franklin Inspirational Quote

by Mary Denman    @MaryDenman

Benjamin Franklin Quote by Mary Denman Photography
What a choice.

Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing. - Benjamin Franklin.

There is so much wrapped up in that statement.

And it's really been challenging me.

You see, I am a writer. Not just here on my blog. I've written a novel and started my next. I've been to writing conferences like Blue Ridge Mountains Christians Writers Conference to hone my craft. (I'm going next week!) Been in a critique group to for accountability and learning more.

But I haven't been able to put my novel out there for editors. Why? Because I'm afraid it's not good enough. I guess you could say that I'm afraid I haven't written something worth reading. . . .

Yet, I've had editors ask for it. They're interested. I thought they were just being nice. While they were nice, editors don't ask for extra work. They ask for what they believe might sell. They want the overview. To see if the story is strong.

So, I'm throwing off my doubts this week. I'm putting my novel out there in front of the editors. Pitching my story.

It's actually exciting to do.

What about you? Maybe you're not a writer. Maybe you're a musician, an athlete, a blogger. A crafter, a teacher, fashionista. A photographer.

How can you do something special with your gifts?

Share them with others. Let your passion encourage, inspire, motivate and challenge others.

Don't hold them back for yourself. Share.

Don't hold yourself back. Share.

I'm thankful other writers have done that for me. Have encouraged me. Have inspired me. Have motivated me.

I want to do that for you too. I've read your blogs. I've seen your crafts. I've seen your photography. I've learned about fashion through your eyes.

Keep learning. Keep sharing. Keep honing your craft. Whatever it is.

And I'll do the same.

I love this community.

Who inspires you and how do they do it?

PS. . . I'll let you know how the conference goes!

  1. I'm so excited for you, Mary! I know your novel is something worth reading. I've been working on a second Bible study for probably 5 years. I could have (should have) pitched it last year but I was scared to. Sound familiar? This year, after lots of encouraging words from my critique group, I'm swallowing my fear and pitching it. Let's pray for each other.

Excited to see you in a week!

  2. Mary, I just can't get motivated to submit to an editor, mainly because of the time it takes to get things accomplished and the editor process as well. I'm really content to self-publish, as I'm not interested in making a living from my writing, just have a goal to accomplish.

  3. wow that's awesome. I remember I have submitted my draft three years ago and they have invited for a meeting but since I stayed in different city I haven't had the time to actually visit them. Now I think I have to send them email to withdraw the drafts. I wish you a very good luck Mary, can't wait to see your book published :)
