Photo Tip Friday - Know and Use Your ISO to Stop Action

by Mary Denman

These birds make look like they're kissing, but they're not!

Today's photography tip is learning how to use ISO function on your camera to catch clearer action shots. By using a "higher" ISO, you can take faster shots which leads to clearer images when your subject is in motion.

So what does that look like? And how do you control ISO?

by Mary Denman

Today’s photo tip is learning how to interact with your subject during a photo shoot for some great pictures.

While most of you may not do photo shoots for pay, there are some valuable lessons you can learn that will help your photography. Which will also bless others and can also help you with your blogging.

Let’s get started.

Monday's Musings - Do Not Grow Weary?

by Mary Denman

My weary daughter, sleeping...
In the past year, I have to admit, I've grown pretty weary. And it's not a fun place to be.

Especially if you only remember the first half of a verse: "Do not grow weary..."

So I decided to track down the verse and get it straight. Was I ever relieved!

Photo Tip Friday - Go do a Photo Shoot with Friends!

by Mary Denman

Welcome back!

Today's tip is...go do a photo shoot with other photographers. Or, alone if you have to!

That may not seem like much of a tip, but I have reasons for suggesting it. Including that you may be surprised at how much fun it is.

Why?

1) You learn more by doing than just reading.

Photo Tip Friday - Using Zoom on Your Camera to Blur the Background

by Mary Denman

Welcome back to Photo Tip Friday!

Mary Denman Photography
Over the past couple of weeks, we talked about the focal point of a picture and what depth of field is.
Click here for last week's post.

Ellen asked a great question last week while trying to find the Aperture setting (which controls depth of field) on her point and shoot camera, as opposed to a DSLR camera - Digital Single Lens Reflex. After I got the model of her camera, I realized the information was so buried in the instruction manual that I decided to teach the work around for her and everyone else.

This technique will work for cell phones, point and shoot, and DSLR cameras.

Monday's Musings - The Self-Made Man: Illusion or True?

by Mary Denman

Mary Denman Photography
I saw this statue recently and it really caught my eye. Both artistically and intellectually. It's a really powerful sculpture. I generally prefer finished works of art, but then that would defeat the point that the artist, Albin Polasek, was trying to make. This is entitled Man Carving His Own Destiny

Before I saw the placard with the actual name, I thought it was something along the lines of Self-Made Man.

Which got me thinking. Can we really be self-made? Can we carve out our own destinies?
