Photo Tip Friday - Learn to Love your Camera: Playing with Perspective

by Mary Denman
Twitter: @MaryDenman

Today, I want to challenge you to learn to love your camera.

Why? Because when you learn to enjoy the process of taking pictures, you can really get better with your photography.

Why? Because you'll allow yourself more freedom to try to take more pictures and try new things.

Why do you need to do this? Because if you're always hoping for the perfect picture the first time, you'll be disappointed and will want to quit trying.

But I want you to keep getting better and better. I'm always pushing myself and learning from others.

So, how does this pertain to playing with perspective? I would love to show you! Let's get started!

So, please know that I will respond to as many as I can.
But if I can't get to everyone to respond,
please know I read all the comments and appreciate them VERY MUCH!!
But I will still try and visit your blog and leave a comment when you leave a comment here!

Oh...and I finally got an Instagram account.... :) See above.

Today, I want to introduce you to our two rescue kitties!
The orange tabby is Emperor Kuzco.
The adorable long haired is Lady Catherine De Bourg.

Can you tell my kids named them??

They went from a shelter to having a bedroom all their own.
At least til they are well.
Then, they'll have the run of the house!

Happy WW!

Monday's Musings - A Maya Angelou Quote to Ponder

by Mary Denman
I recently read this quote by Maya Angelou that caught my attention.
It made me think.
A lot.

In our culture here in the US, we tend to celebrate the greatness of people. Of accomplishments. Of a job well done.

There's nothing inherently wrong with this.

Photo Tip Friday - How to Take Great Sunset Photos

By Mary Denman

One of the most beautiful things to photograph are sunsets and sunrises. However, so many people take pictures of sunsets, but are disappointed with the results. Today's tip is going to help you learn how to take great sunset pictures.

The pictures that I'm using today are exactly as I took them. There is no color enhancement to them at all.

Let's get started.

Photo Tip Friday: How to Blur the Foreground or Background for Greatest Effect

by Mary Denman
ISO 400, 44mm, f/2.8, 1/40

Welcome back! This week, I want to teach you a technique that I've really been working on recently. I want to share what I've learned.

The big tip for this week is to learn how to blur the part of the picture that will provide the most interesting perspective for the photo.

What does this mean or look like? Let's get started.

These are all shots I took at a wedding. This is my youngest daughter. The candle caught my eye. I focused on her and let the candle be out of focus.

Of course I had to try it both ways.

Here's part of my family on the beach, hubby, nieces, nephews, my kids.
We couldn't go into the water that day because of the undertow and rip currents.
Though, the waves were powerful and beautiful to watch!

Happy WW!
And a thank you to Claudia Willison for your help in making my post look better!
