This Friday, the photography tips will be about how to hold your camera to get better shots!

I've had a social media break and I'm happy to be back blogging!

I attended a photography conference in early January in San Antonio, Texas.
It was amazing!
I met some incredible people and I'm so excited to improve my craft and teach you what I'm learning.

Here are a couple of shots of my daughter when the weather was nice and cold!
Enjoy!

Photo Tip Friday: How to Take Better Shots in Difficult Conditions, Part 2

by Mary Denman     Twitter: @MaryDenman    Instagram: @MaryFDenman

As we learned about last week in Part 1 of how to take better shots in difficult conditions, sometimes we have to shoot in challenging lighting conditions.

Cloud cover, rain and fog present an opportunity to capture some amazing photos, and it's definitely more work. But worth it.

So what are some things you can do to take better shots?

Let's get started.

This Friday will be about taking better shots in bad conditions.

On to Wordless Wednesday!

My daughter just completed her Masters Degree in ABA Therapy.
She works with children with autism and I'm so proud of the work she does.
She also worked full time while earning her Masters.
I just can't tell you how proud of her I am!!!!

Wordless Wednesday: Priorities and a Trip to France

by Mary Denman     @MaryDenman
In recent years, being a multi-tasker has been the buzz.

Maybe at one point, I thought I could do that. But not so much any more.

I've been trying to learn how to pare down and focus better. With fewer distractions.

But as a home schooling mom with 3 kids still at home, that's been hard for me to do.

Photo Tip Friday: 3 Tips for Taking Better Father's Day Photos

by Mary Denman     @MaryDenman
If you're lucky enough to get to spend Father's Day with your dad, make sure you take your camera and get some special shots.

Today's tips are designed to help you think about different ways to capture the special day.

Hopefully, you'll think a little outside the box and walk away with great memories.

Let's get started!

Photo Tip Friday: Personalized Father's Day Gifts from your Photos

by Mary Denman     @MaryDenman
With Father's Day fast approaching here in the US, I wanted to give you some ideas of how to use your photography for personalized gifts.

All of us know a dad who may be hard to buy for, so instead of a new tie or socks, (and my hubby has actually asked for socks before), why not spend a little time thinking about something more personal for him.

That's where your photography can come in, to help create a memorable Father's Day gift.

Let's get started.

Wordless Wednesday: Photos from the Conference

by Mary Denman    @MaryDenman

Welcome to Wordless Wednesday!

Last week, I was the conference photographer for Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference. (Yes, it's a mouthful!)
In addition, I took head shots for almost 40 clients.
As a result, I have a TON of photos to go through and deliver.
I think it's about 2,278,621 shots, more or less.......   ;)

I will be back for Wordless Wednesday on June 8 and then photo tips for Friday, June 10th.

Enjoy these shots from the conference and I'll see you next week!

Photo Tip Friday: Portrait versus Landscape, Part 1

by Mary Denman    @MaryDenman
There are two main orientations of your camera in photography: portrait and landscape.

When composing a picture, it's good to know if one orientation will produce a better shot.

There are rarely hard and fast rules in photography, so it's good to understand the strengths of using each orientation.

As you learn more about when to each of them, your photography will improve.

Let's get started.

Photo Tip Friday: Change your Perspective in Photography and Move

by Mary Denman         Twitter: @MaryDenman      Instagram: @MaryFDenman

Today, I want to teach you about moving around to get different perspectives in your photos.

I have a beautiful rhododendron in my yard. It's amazing how the time of day, cloud cover and perspective can produce such varied pictures.

In this series, I used the same cluster of flowers at the top of bush and moved around it, photographing over two day's time from different angles and in different lighting conditions to show you how many variations you can create.

I think this will help you see how important it is for you to move while doing photography to take different angles of the same subject.

Let's get started.

Monday's Musings: Perspective can Change so Much...

by Mary Denman      @MaryDenman

"Why do we have a walker and shower chair here? That's what grandmas and grandpas use." Not my son's most sensitive thing to say. Yet, it was accurate.

He had seen his grandparents use pieces of equipment just like these. He was surprised that I had bought them for me.

Honestly, I understood his sentiment. For a moment, I felt older...much older.

I had a feeling of not being strong.

Of not being able to make my body do what I told it to do.

Of needing help.

I'm back from my little break!

While I'm still pretty slow to get around as the tendon and my heel continue to heal, I did get out with hubby to get a few shots!
Not even surgery can keep me from my camera!

This Friday's Photo Tip will be about Golden Hour.
This one tip alone can change your photography.
