Broken, but beautifully strong. |
I love butterflies. My mom did, too. They have such an incredible beauty.
Iridescent scales on their wings. A lightness as you watch them fly. Bright colors that catch your attention.
As a photographer, it's so fun to try and get shots of butterflies. They move so quickly and sometimes erratically, which makes it a challenge. But the good kind of challenge.
However, not every picture I get showcases a perfect butterfly.
As I looked at these butterflies, I noticed tattered and torn wings. At first, I was bummed that they weren't "perfect". But then I thought about it.
Does that mean they aren't beautiful?
Not at all.
Did the broken wings stop them?
No.
Did it make it harder to fly?
I'm sure it did. It probably also made them stronger. They had to work more just to fly. To look for food.
And they did. They kept on flying. They kept going, in spite of the difficulties.
They are broken, but beautifully strong.
That's what I want my life to look like.
I may be broken in some areas. I may not be on top of everything. But I want people to see me as beautifully strong, fighting through the difficulties that come.
My mom did that as her body failed her. She embodied the strength of the butterfly with broken wings. She was more gracious, more trusting of God as she suffered. She fought through the pain. She set an example that I want to follow. To become more beautiful through the trials and difficulties.
I want to be beautifully strong.
How about you? Do you know someone who is beautifully strong?
