Well, I did!! 

I just wasn't IN the water with them! 

I was at Ripley's Aquarium in SC.

Got some great shots of the sharks and other creatures, though.

Last week in Part 1, we went over how the distance between your subject and the background can make a difference in how blurred the backdrop is. I'll have a link for that at the end of this post. 

But today, I'm going to talk about how to use the zoom feature of your camera to blur the background.

We were on vacation last week at the beach.
One morning, the clouds broke and this is what I saw......
All the shots but one are totally unedited. 

It. Was. Gorgeous. 
FOOTNOTE: The water was in the 50's...yes, i got my feet wet for some of the shots! What a photographer must do!!!

Monday's Musings: "Thank You" Doesn't Have an Expiration Date

My dear father-in-law, Larry Denman

I learned an incredible lesson from a dying man. 

"Thank you" doesn't have an expiration date. 

In June of 2012, my father-in-law was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was immediately put in Hospice care. They gave him 4-6 months to live. 

While it was a shock to the rest of us, my father-in-law took it really, really well. He decided to keep living as long as he he had breath. 

Literally.

Monday's Musings: Helen Keller Quote is an Inspiration to Overcome Suffering

My one word for 2015 is overcome. For those of you who haven't yet heard of the one word movement, it's one word for the year instead of lots of New Year resolutions. 

It's been a couple of months now, and I still need to remember my word when things get hard. To remind me to stand firm and overcome the trials that pop up. 

Because really, life is never going to be easy. There are going to be great moments in life. But there will always be challenges. 

I, for one, am tired of giving in to the challenges. 

Photo Tip Friday: The Direction of Lighting

One of the most important factors in great photography is understanding lighting, lighting, lighting. 

Bad lighting will ruin a great shot. While there is more that can be done with digital photography to correct bad lighting, understanding lighting goes a lot further to creating great photography.

So today we're going to go over some examples that will help you see how the direction of lighting can affect your photography. 

We're going to see what happens when light is directly behind your subject, at side angle to your subject, and in front of your subject.
